Emma discovered the benefits of Pilates ten years ago, and after many years of practice she decided to bite the bullet, give up her day job as a TV producer and become a full-time instructor.
"Pilates moved front and center in my life after my two sons were born. Before I had kids my body was strong, healthy and I rarely got sick. After childbirth I felt that I lost a lot of that strength. I had a weak pelvic floor and developed a diastasis recti along with other sundry aches and pains. So I upped my Pilates quotient and after a year not only was my body much stronger, my diastasis recti had dramatically improved. That had an enormous impact on me – I wanted to proselytize Pilates but I also wanted to know more about the practice itself."
Emma enrolled at the Kane School of Core Integration in NYC, under the guidance of the school’s founder Kelly Kane, and became fully certified in anatomy, mat and equipment.
It is her mission to educate her clients about their bodies, movement patterns and empower them to take control of their health. She strives to create a warm, positive environment where clients can challenge themselves physically and mentally. Emma believes passionately that movement is medicine and the key to long, healthy pain-free living.
Private classes with Emma are individually tailored to work for each client's needs. Her specialty is working with special population clients - pre and post partum, sports injuries, disc herniation, scoliosis, excessive kyphosis and hyper lordosis. She is CPR trained and certified FAMI Level 1 - Functional Anatomy for Movement with Injuries - through the Icahn School at Mt Sinai Hospital NYC.
Emma teaches Pilates equipment classes to private clients in Manhattan. She also teaches Chair Pilates - a modified Pilates program for seniors whose ages range from 80-103!!
Emma divides her time between NYC and Rhinebeck NY. When she's not teaching or practising Pilates she's parenting two teenage boys, doing the occasional freelance writing gig, and voluntary work with her therapy dog Walter. She loves walks in the Hudson Valley, good food, good wine and good company.
